Suicide Prevention Toolkit
Suicide is a tragedy for the individual who chooses it and
for those left behind. Its effects can be devastating for survivors—the family,
school, place of worship, workplace, and extended community. Research tells us
we can’t prevent every suicide, but there is a lot we can do to reduce the risk
of suicide, to identify and intervene with those who are vulnerable, and to
provide ongoing supports.
LifeWays and the Jackson Suicide Prevention Coalition teamed up to develop a digital toolkit, which offers concrete and hands-on
tools to pro-actively help prevent suicide, to intervene with a person at risk
of suicide, and to respond to a completed suicide. Included in the toolkit are
educational materials for professionals, for the general public to promote
public awareness, tools for risk assessment and protocols for intervention,
documents/handouts/posters to increase awareness of suicide risk, and
additional resources for becoming educated about suicide prevention.
If you and/or your organization is interested in obtaining a
toolkit, please complete the following Toolkit Request Form and return it via email, mail or fax.
Toolkit materials are available on a preloaded 256MB flash
drive. There are a limited number available. Preference will be given to those
individuals and organizations that 1) demonstrate limited access to existing
resources, such as prevention coalitions in their start-up phase and/or schools
with minimal access to subject material, 2) express a willingness to
collaborate and share the toolkit contents with related parties, and/or 3) are
willing to share outcomes and local impact of toolkit implementation with LifeWays and its partners.
Staff of LifeWays, Jackson Public Schools
and Jackson Intermediate School District are able to download materials on
their respective servers. Contact your Information Technology Administrator for
details.
